Email alerts with two factor authentication

Email alerts with two factor authentication

Using Techtool Monitor, you can get email notifications if SMART is failing or a drive becomes too full. If your email provider requires two-factor authentication, you may need to set up an app-specific password in order for email alerts to function properly. Here are instructions for commonly used email providers.

iCloud

  1. Log in to your Apple ID account
  2. If prompted to verify a message on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad, this confirms that two-factor authentication is enabled.
  3. After logging in, select App-Specific Passwords in the Sign-In and Security section.
  4. In the App-Specific Passwords window, click the “+” button to add a new password.
  5. In the Generate App-Specific Password window, enter “Techtool Monitor” as the label, then click Create.
  6. When prompted, enter your Apple ID password and click Continue.
  7. An app-specific password will be generated. Enter this password into the Password field in Techtool Monitor’s email alerts settings.
  8. You won’t be able to view this app password again after closing the window, so be sure to save it securely for future reference.
