Building A ProToGo For Older MacBook Pro 14 Jun 2017 01:40 #8370

Ihave a MacBook Pro (2008) that is having problems and I want to build a ProToGo disck from my newer MacBook Pro (2011) that will boot the older MacBook Pro. Can that be done? If so, what do I need to select to build a bootable system for the older computer in ProToGo?

The system software on a ProToGo device is copied from the system software of the computer on which the program is running. It is not likely that the software on one model will boot another model. The usual problem is support for the video. You could try it.

Years ago, Apple made bootable DVDs that would boot multiple models, and we were able to license that software for use in ProToGo. Apple stopped making the bootable DVDs.

If both models have FireWire, try connecting them in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
