TTP 9.6.3 on High Sierra 10.3.6 03 Jul 2019 09:57 #11216

Hi.

I am back on TTP, but I want to ask if there are any known issues running 9.6.3 on High Sierra 10.3.6. My machine is a MacBook Pro late 2011.

TechTool Pro 9.6.3 is compatible with High Sierra. I am not aware of any significant unresolved problems.

There are some changes that had to be made in light of changes Apple made to security. You cannot use the Directory Backup feature in the TechTool Protection system preferences pane to back up the disk directory of the active startup volume, and Trash History cannot be used on the active startup volume. Surface Scan and File Optimization require booting from a different device in High Sierra and later (the system software command used to “open” the volume requires this).

By another drive you mean another hard drive, I suppose?
But, can I boot from another partition /El Capitan/ and run surface Scan and File Optimization on the High Sierra partition?

The other drive can be another rotational hard drive, an SSD, or a USB memory stick.

To run the Surface Scan to examine a drive, you must be booted from a volume on a different drive. To run the File Optimization on a particular volume, you must be booted from a volume on a different drive, not just another partition on the same drive.

Why is the Surface Scan unavailable for my internal drive?

If I install a TTP 9.6 edrive on a external drive, how much space is needed?

I do not currently have a copy of TechTool Pro 9.6. You can check the size of the TechTool Pro 9.6 application by selecting its icon in the Finder and typing Command I to bring up the Info box. TechTool Pro 10 is about 250MB, and its preference pane is about 12MB.
