TTP 6 vs. TTP 7 20 Jun 2013 16:06 #4100

Ok, Mavericks will be introduced before year's end (Apple says this Fall). 10.8.4 is the most current OS X.

So, what advantage is there, currently, between TTP 6.0.6 compared to TTP 7?

Hi,

i have tt6 and it isn't possible with this version to use the eDrive feature.
Can tt7 handle this?

The link provides an overview of TTP 7, but is there a side-by-side features comparison?

The link's detail doesn't provide any substantive, comparative reasons why I should spend $40 to upgrade since TTP 6.0.6 works fine with 10.8.4.

The text makes it clear that the major changes are the new RAM test, and the improvement in the Volume Optimization. The RAM test is the result of two years of work, and the Volume Optimization is a major rewrite.

You should be able to use the eDrive with both versions, as long as you have a suitable volume that can be split to make the eDrive.

The new RAM tester is, as far as we know, the only one that tests all of the free (non-wired) RAM. It temporarily disables the RAM cache, so it does not mistake an address in the cache for one in the main RAM, and it can tell whether an address is in a virtual memory swapfile.

The fact that TechTool Pro 7 is fully 64-bit compatible makes it possible to rebuild the disk directory on larger volumes, because TechTool Pro 7 can address more RAM, and the entire new disk directory must be held in RAM before it is written to the volume.

The new SPD window flags RAM chips that are not matched to the others that are installed. One of our beta testers found that he had one RAM module that was several hundred Mhz slower than the others. When RAM is installed in pairs, both members of the pair operate at the speed of the slower module.
