Original hardrive gone? 12 Jun 2013 15:54 #4086

Ok, so I created an edrive and restarted my computer so the edrive is the startup disk. I ran through volume rebuild, file optimisation and volume optimisation. The later two failed and now there is no 'Mactintosh HD' option availible to retry. How do I go back to the macintosh HD as the startup disk instead of this edrive. I seem to be stuck in it.

I am sorry to see that you had this outcome after using the disk optimizer.

If a volume optimization failed, it is possible that there is damage to the usual startup volume that is preventing it from being used as the startup volume. If it is not damaged, you should be able to use the Startup Disk system preferences pane to choose it, or it should show up in the Startup Manager that you invoke by holding down the Option key at the start of the boot.

You should check the disk directory of the usual startup volume using Disk Utility or the Volume Structures test, and run the Surface Scan to check the drive for unremapped bad blocks.
