Volume Journaling 06 May 2013 17:19 #4017

Checkmate has been giving a warning, "Volume Structures test could not be run for volume Macintosh HD. Use Disk Utility to confirm that volume journaling is enabled for this volume."

I remember seeing volume journaling in Disk Utilities years ago, but it isn't there now. I used Tech Tool Pro to enable volume journaling. Is that sufficient?

I am using 10.8.3. Should volume journaling be found in Disk Utility?

Whether you use Disk Utility or TechTool Pro to turn on journaling, the same command is sent:

sudo diskutil enableJournal /

for the active startup volume.

A quick Google search for:

Disk Utility enable journal mountain lion

produces a forum posting that states that if your select the volume in Disk Utility, then look at the File menu, there is an "enable journaling" entry. It used to have a prominent button. I do not use Mountain Lion myself, because it does not yet support Quartz Extreme animation for the graphics card in my iMac, and those graphics routines are used in our disk optimizer.
