Ami I using Directory Backup correctly? 05 Sep 2013 11:21 #4643

Hi, i had some weird stuff happening and then activated Backup Directory.
Now i have 22GB in my TTP Protection folder... is that a lot?
I have 5 volumes selected: TimeMachine, Internal of MBP, its backup, my samples library, my Mp3 library.
The interval is set to every 4 hours.
Can i effectively reduce this?

thanks, jeff

22 GB is not unexpected when you are using the Protection feature on the Time Machine volume. The disk directory for Time Machine depends on how many backups are on the Time Machine volume.

You can change the backup interval time in the Protection interface, but it is always going to store three backups for each protected volume.

I suggest that you not use the Protection feature for the Time Machine volume, because the disk directory can often be thirty to forty times the size of a normal disk directory, because each backup in the Time Machine volume requires directory entries.

To save space on the Time Machine volume itself, you might put the directory at /Library/Application Support/TechTool Protection into the exclusion window of Time Machine, using the Options button:
