MacOS 10.15 Catalina compatibility 18 Jul 2019 14:28 #11265

I was wondering if there is a time frame for when TechTool Pro will be compatible with MacOS 10.15 Catalina

There is no way to know when a Catalina compatible version of TechTool Pro will be ready. The developers are always working on a new version, and work with the betas of Catalina, but until Catalina is finished and released to the public, one cannot be certain that there will be no unpleasant surprises.

When Apple released Tiger, it introduced in the public release a new disk directory file, Extended Attributes, that was not in the final beta. Any disk repair utility that did not take Extended Attributes into account would cause the situation described here (the original Apple document is apparently no longer online):

I suggest you change your screen name to something other than an email address. These forums are indexed by Google, and you might get a lot of spam. Use the My Account link at the top of the page, and then the Account Information link. Changing your screen name retroactively updates the screen name that appears in all of your postings.

I am using Catalina and I receive a warning that Techpro Tool is not 100% compatible, are we closer to an ETA for the Catalina compatible release?

There is a detailed Knowledge Base article that explains which tests and tools in TechTool Pro 11.0.5 are compatible with Catalina:

Techtool Pro 11 Tests and Tools status when used with Catalina.

There is no way to know just when TechTool Pro 12 will be ready, because there is no way to know in advance the outcome of beta testing.

Catalina itself will have revisions, as it appears to have some problems at this point.

If there is any news about the release of TechTool Pro 12, it will be published in the Knowledge Base area.

That is dangerous stuff ... jumping onto a new Mac OS .. with out the Utilities to be there to save your bacon.

There have been several times I trashed out OS 10.4 ... and went back to an earlier version of OS 10.3 that I had on a boot able mirrored clone of my startup SSD ....

which every one tells me I can do .. soon to find out.

I get to download the TTP Installer that is good to go on Mojave OS ... which is a BIG disappointment for my 4 year old Intel i5 core ... now that new one to drive is the Intell i9 cores.

Got my upgrade being sorted out hard ware wise right now ... and when I get it on the internet ... spends hours and hours down loading stuff.

To NOTE ... with Apple .. they have .. and often times do ... HOLD on to Mac OS native code so the TTP developers are unable to move the program and hack code.

So TTP is stuck .. as Apple ... apparently ... on the face of it ... seems to not want you to have utilities to save your bacon.

My experience .. says .. wait.

One day you will jump ahead to the new OS and there is no going back ... ouch .. does that hurt some. The Fix for your New OS problems ... are in the hands of Tech Tool ... and are being sorted out now.

Write the code ... give it a test run on some known machines out there (every one is pretty much unique as to add ons and hard ware chains).

See if the test run crashes and lucky us ... TTP shoots out data ducks for the developers to fix the code faster.

No. When there is news, it will be posted in the Knowledge Base article below, not in the forums:

We are working on the update, but there is no way to know when software will be finished, because the outcome of testing it thoroughly cannot be predicted in advance.

Also please consider that there is are so few Catalina users out there, so the testing pool is low in numbers.

You seem like a bright, learned person.

If you want to be a Beta Tester .. run a Beta TTP Catalina on your Mac OS .. watch it crash and then spend hours .. repairing the Catalina OS to make your computer run again.

Maybe even having to download a Command R reinstall of the OS .. to get your Macintosh back and running ... give them an email.

Become a Beta tester, crash once .. see if there is any TTP records and reports you can dig out of your files (TTP developers will tell you where to find them).

Then send those crash reports and data packets .. along with any screen shots.

Give a go .. help all of the new Catalina people get their TTP updates out for their new upgrade they installed ... and are pretty much stuck now with it.

Me .. I do not do upgrades (I have an Intel 7 chip MacBook Pro) until .. maybe 6 months after it comes out.

I know how Apple operates .. and I do not like it one bit.

They make Movies now ... $5 Billion on actors.

Not on new technology like Steve Jobs would do .. that is all dead.

Went into the grave with Steve.

"because the outcome of testing it thoroughly cannot be predicted in advance?"

If every company said that, road maps nor predicted release dates would ever be released?!

If my boss asked when something would be done and I told him that there would be no way to know the outcome of testing and so I cannot provide an answer, I would be fired...

How about a little more transparency, like... "we're targeting for Q1/2020" rather than the least elegant non-answer ever.

So few Catalina users?! Yikes, someone better tell Apple!

Wasn't Catalina available to developers for MONTHS prior to release?

The version that is available to developers is a series of ever-changing betas, which can differ substantially and without documentation from the version that is released to the public.

Novox,

Long experience has shown that such estimates do not work in practice for software development.

Apple often times keeps the vital code held back from TTP and other outside developers for some time after release by my experience .. hence me not upgrading until 6 to 9 months after Apple drops it out the door for use.

I much prefer to see and hear you guys go on about it ... once is enough for me to get smacked about by Apple to stay away and stick to what I have .. that does work. Or can be repaired by TTP ...

much less of a headache to put my money on.

I really don't want to continue arguing the merits of communicating with customers, but less than an hour since your prior post, TTP 12 is released?

Not even a "soon" or "stay tuned we have a big announcement coming up?"

Maybe this was marketing advising you to hint at nothing or perhaps it's possible you were completely unaware of TTP 12's imminent release by higher-ups, but even such internal secrecy is concerning to me, as a customer.

I like TTP, I've been a faithful user for years, it's why I was disappointed a Catalina compatible TTP wasn't released yet when I initially posted! (If I didn't care, I wouldn't have been as disappointed, nor would I have been as aggressive in my verbiage).

I will likely upgrade to TTP 12, but based on other commentary, now I wonder if perhaps I should wait 6 to 9 months before upgrading?

In my humble opinion, agree or disagree, Micromat could have been a little more forthcoming with communications to customers about TTP 12's release, I think that's all we were asking for.

Thank you.

Novox,

I have already stated many times in these forums that the beta testing of the program is covered by a non-disclosure agreement. I posted the fact that the update was available as soon as it was available for download. If I had been instructed to make an earlier announcement, I would have done so.

I like Micromat, used it for years. Recently, Techtools for Mac, doesn't seem to keep up with Macs updates, so I'm never able to use it. Micromat asked for payment in advance for the updates, but they're never compatible. Is it ever going to be compatible? Will I have to keep paying and it never work?

Abuzeide,

TechTool Pro 12.0.1, which is compatible with macOS Catalina, was released on Thursday, December 5, 2019. That was noted in this thread within minutes of release.
