Meanings of Techtool SMART check errors 08 Jul 2019 17:15 #11235

I put an SSD drive in my MacBook Pro mid-2012 about two years ago. I don't know whether Techtool Pro accurately checks SSD drives or not. I'm getting three errors with the indicator at 50%. They are:

Extended Health
Reallocated Sectors Count (5)
Reported Uncorrectable Errors (187)

What do these mean?
Can I trust this report?
What can I do about these errors?

All other checks are good except for some damaged files.

Please see this thread, and be sure to both check to see if a firmware update for the drive is available, and to contact the maker of the drive:

Errors on SSD

Assuming that there is no firmware update available, the SMART test results should be trustworthy. You should get the same results by using the demo of SMART Utility from Volitans Software.

There is a detailed description of the meaning of each of the SMART attributes in the manual for our Drive Scope program:

Techtool Pro 11 occasionally gives me warnings about the SMART status of the SSD in my MacBook Pro mid-2012 also, especially on start up. I put the SSD in myself less than one year ago. However, whenever I run the SMART check, the SSD passes all checks. Why might I be getting these warning messages?

I do not know why the SMART status would show such a change. Please send a message to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If the warning on start up gives any indication of which SMART attribute is showing the failure or warning, please be sure to include that. Thank you.

I chatted with someone from support and he suggested I check with Crucial to see if there are any firmware upgrades for my SSD. There is one, but I can't manage to burn it to any of the media I have, so I won't know if that will fix it until I get that settled.

Crucial must have encountered a customer with a Macintosh before.

I just have to buy the right media. If it doesn't work, I'm still under warranty and they've already told me how to return it.
