TOPIC: Rebuild eDrive?

Rebuild eDrive? 07 Jun 2019 17:18 #11151

Is it advisable to rebuild the eDrive every once in a while?

The system software on the eDrive is a subset of a full installation of macOS. Because some system software files are not on the eDrive, it is not advisable to attempt to install security updates on it. So, when a security update is released, that is a good time to create a new eDrive, after your have installed the security update on the volume that serves as the MacOS Source Volume. Otherwise, it the eDrive works properly, I see no reason to make a new one.

Sorry, my Q was not clear. I meant running something like TTP's own Volume Rebuild on it (yes, I can mount the eDrive for that), or installing something like OnyX on the eDrive and running it occasionally.

On the other hand, the subtext in your answer was maybe an answer in itself: if it ain't broke ...

There is no point in rebuilding the disk directory of the eDrive unless the Volume Structures test finds a disk directory error on the eDrive.

I cannot comment on OnyX, as I have no experience with it.
