Recurring Partition Map Error 27 Jun 2018 01:11 #9901

Greetings, all:

My Mac Mini (running OS 10.13.5) is being reported as having a Partition Map error in Checkmate but when I run diagnostics in Tech Tool Pro (v 9.6.3) it reports that everything's fine. The SSD (Samsung EVO 850) is a single volume/partition, APFS.

Who's lying? : )

In my experience, neither program is lying.

I have seen the same thing you have reported. In my cases, Checkmate reports a problem with the partition map, but both Disk Utility (with the device, not the volume chosen) and TechTool Pro report no problem with the partition map.

In at least some of my cases, the system.log file showed that the operating system itself detected and repaired a minor error in the partition map. If I recall correctly, it had to do with the sizes of the various partitions on the device not adding up to the total size of the device.

Checkmate 1.1.8 reports a partition error although TTPro 11 sezs all is OK .

Makes me wonder who is telling the truth and why would there be that disparity ?

As they say in " to tell the truth and nothing but the truth " .

Having said that why should we trust TTPro 11 on any test ?

The only answer I have has already been posted, in posting #9902, below.
