Time machine volume issue??? 23 Aug 2014 08:25 #5739

Checkmate is constantly reporting an error (partition structure error) on a drive where there is a Time Machine volume.

I suspect that's the reason cause when I analyse the drive everything seems to be ok.

Is it normal and if not is it possible to fix it?

thanks

You can test the partition map using Disk Utility.

In Disk Utility, select the drive mechanism itself (not any volume on it) and then click the Verify Disk button. That should check the partition map of the drive. The output looks like this:

Verifying partition map for (name of mechanism)
Checking prerequisites
Checking the partition list
Checking for an EFI system partition
Checking the EFI system partition’s size
Checking the EFI system partition’s file system
Checking all HFS data partition loader spaces
Checking Core Storage Physical Volume partitions
The partition map appears to be OK

There are some cases in which Checkmate falsely reports a failure in the Surface Scan test, because the CheckmateWorkerDaemon process crashed, causing the test to not be completed. You can see if there has been a crash of the daemon by using the Console application, located in /Applications/Utilities, to check the logs at /Library/Logs CrashReporter and ~/Library/Logs CrashReporter.

If Disk Utility finds no problem with the partition map, please use the Send Report feature in the Checkmate application's Checkmate menu. Be sure to include your email address. You will receive a reply by email on Monday. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I won't be able to do this test before a week or so as I'm not in this location anymore.
I'll let you know ASAP

Hi,

You were right. Disk Utility also detected (and repaired) a partition error on the drive. Stupid me I didn't try that before.

A good point for Checkmate.
