It is possible for Techtool Pro’s Battery Check test and Techtool Monitor notification system to report a Warning even when the macOS indicates that the battery condition is Normal. This is not an error or conflict, but rather reflects differences in how each system evaluates battery health and performance.
Techtool Pro’s Battery Check performs a detailed analysis of the data provided by the battery’s internal controller. It compares the battery’s Maximum Capacity to its Design Capacity to calculate the Capacity Life Remaining. If this percentage falls below 80%, the test reports a Warning; if it drops below 70%, the battery receives a Failed result.
The macOS, in contrast, uses a simplified approach. The Normal, Service Recommended, or Replace Now status shown in System Settings or System Information is based on Apple’s internal thresholds. The macOS generally reports Normal as long as the battery can still hold an acceptable percentage of its original capacity and no hardware faults are detected.
Apple’s thresholds are relatively conservative. For example, a battery may retain only 80 to 85% of its original capacity but still be reported as Normal if its voltage, temperature, and charge/discharge behavior are within specification.
Techtool Pro may issue a Warning earlier than macOS because it is designed to alert users to early signs of wear or imbalance before the battery reaches Apple’s Service Recommended threshold. A Warning from Techtool Pro does not necessarily mean immediate replacement is required, but it does indicate that the battery is beginning to show signs of reduced efficiency.
