Safety doesn't always run at specified time - 2010/07/20 16:54 This has been a problem for well over a year or more, but Micromat doesn't seem to have an answer. Despite having indicated what time I want the Safety modules to run, they will most often run at any time other than what I specified. (I want them to run while I have dinner and before my backup software does its thing.)

So tonight, in one last attempt to cure this, I uninstalled Tech Tool Pro 4.6.2, repaired permissions, restarted and then re-installed Tech Tool Pro 4.6.2, restarted, and repaired permissions.

After launching Tech Tool Pro 4.6.2, I attempted to set up the Safety modules, but was prevented from doing so by a message that says:

"Safety Not Active.

This feature is only available when Tech Tool Pro 4
is installed on your normal startup volume."

Tech Tool Pro 4 most assuredly IS installed on my normal startup volume. I is the same volume on which it had been installed for several years, and the volume from which I had just uninstalled it.

Any ideas?

Re:Safety doesn't always run at specified time - 2010/07/20 17:07 There is nothing we can do now about software that is no longer being revised. The only suggestion I can make is to run the TechTool Pro installer after performing a Safe Boot.

The scheduled tests and features do not run if the TechTool Pro application itself is open, to prevent conflicts between scheduled tests and features and user-initiated ones.

It took quite a while for us to resolve all of the problems, some of them rare and difficult to reproduce, with the Protection feature. It is working quite well for almost everyone in TechTool Pro 5.0.7.

Re:Safety doesn't always run at specified time - 2010/07/20 17:26 Yes, I am aware that scheduled events will not run if the application is running.

Trashing the entire preferences folder and re-launching solved the issue of not being able to use the Safety modules.

Now I'll wait til tomorrow to see if they run when I want them to run.

Thanks.

Re:Safety doesn't always run at specified time - 2010/08/09 17:59 Well, after doing a re-install under a Safe Boot, the Safety Modules ran at the time I specified for a couple of days. Then, each day, they launched a few minutes later and later, until today, when they finally launched over 90 minutes after they are supposed to.

This probably doesn't seem like big deal to many people, but I scheduled these events during a time when I'm not working. My work is recording and editing high-resolution audio, which requires a lot of reading and writing from the drives. I'd prefer not to risk my work by having diagnostic software accessing the drives at the same time. My reliance on these drives is exactly the reason I bought and run TTPro (4.6.2).

Believe me, I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, but is there any guarantee this problem won't exist if I upgrade to version 5?

Re:Safety doesn't always run at specified time - 2010/08/09 18:54 There are very few reports of problems with the features configured in the TechTool Protection system preferences pane as of version 5.0.7. The previously-reported problems were difficult to reproduce, and solving them required a substantial rewrite of the code in earlier versions in the TechTool Pro 5.0.x series. MicroMat Inc
