1 - Connected iPhone to Mac Book Pro (10.4.10) 2 - iTunes (7.4.2) launches automatically 3 - iPhone (1.0.2) does a sync 4 - Launch Syphone 5 - "No iphones found!"
Repeat this with various permutations of ordering of steps - no go!
SMSDaemon is running fine.
LOVE the concept of this app. Was playing with scripting some sort of SQLite interface to talk to phone but this is SO much more elegant! If I can get it to work!
Any thoughts would be appreciated, in the meanwhile - keep up the good work!

Re:No iphones found! - 2007/10/15 07:12There are various options available for how the syncing of the iPhone with iTunes is done. I will have to ask what must be synched in order for the SMS text messages to be recognized.
The SMSDaemon performs its sync after the iPhone has been disconnected. Try disconnecting the iPhone.

Re:No iphones found! - FIX - 2007/10/15 08:37Hi
Actually I had omitted to mention that I HAD disconnected the iPhone to trigger the sync - to no avail.. however.. SORTED IT!!
In preferences, turned OFF 'Run helper app in the background' and turned it ON again - effectively ( I assume!) restarting the SMS Daemon.
Worked like a charm. SMS messages appeared immediately on disconnect!
Once again, my congratulations on a nice piece of software!

Re:No iphones found! - FIX - 2007/10/15 08:43Thanks for letting us know how you resolved the problem, and for your kind comments.
The problem you had was beneficial to mne, because it brought to my attention the entire issue of just what aspect of the synching of the iPhone with the iPhone database used by iTunes is transferring the text messages. One of our programmers sent me a note stating that the user cannot make any sync choices that prevent this from happening. The SMS text messages on the iPhone are automatically backed up to the Macintosh when the sync with iTunes is performed.MicroMat Inc Makers of TechTool

Re:No iphones found! - FIX - 2007/10/15 08:54For some reason Syphone was only showing 1 Text message from August 14. I figured out the problem:
1) I looked in the "~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup" folder and realized that there were 2 folders in there one dated Today and one dated August 14
2) realized that I had my phone replaced on August 14, and had named the new phone the same as the old.
3) So I removed the old folder
4) launched Syphone, told it not to run the daemon, and relaunched it.
It looks like Syphone can't handle 2 backup folders with the same phone name.
Thanks,
Jason

Re:No iphones found! - FIX - 2007/10/15 09:42Thanks for your clear and detailed report, and for your suggestion. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in having access to the Notes from the iPhone.
I had not seen a case of two mobile phone backup folders before, regardless of whether the phones had the same name.MicroMat Inc Makers of TechTool

Worked like a charm. SMS messages appeared immediately on disconnect! Thanks for figuring that out. I was having the same issue: synched w/ iTunes, disconnected iPhone, etc. and it still wasn't being recognized by Syphone.
To the developers; thanks for creating this great little app, please don't add so many features that it becomes bloatware. And the "Syphone Help" in the menu bar is grayed out. Could it possibly link to an FAQ or simple how-to on your site? Or even a link to these forums? Thanks either way.
JBracy, I had two previous iPhones and all three of mine have had the same name yet I didn't have an issue. Just to be safe though, I did as you mentioned and deleted those backup folders. Heh.

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/10/27 12:27At first Syphone was not detecting my iPhone, then instead of detecting my iPhone, it detected an iPod Touch...it will not detect my iPhone or retrieve messages.

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/10/27 13:03The program does not work with any but the first versions of the iPhone software. There is nothing the user can do as a workaround that will make it work.MicroMat Inc Makers of TechTool

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/11/05 03:17If I disable the helper app it says in the top right iPhone found waiting for disconnect - when I disconnect the app quits "unexpectedly" asking me to send a report to apple and restart. I have the latest 3GS firmware and snow leopard. If I don't disable the helper app in preferences, I get nothing at all out of the application.

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/11/18 09:30The program does only work with iPhone OS 1.x.x??? Why doesn't it work with 3GS and the newest OS? That's so bad because I thought this program would help me... Geez...

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/11/18 09:46Syphone got the SMS text messages from the backup of the contents of the iPhone made by iTunes when you sync your iPhone. Apple changed the file format or the database structure in such a way that Syphone cannot read it.MicroMat Inc Makers of TechTool

Re:No iphones found! - 2009/11/28 10:14Hi guys!
Just downloaded Syphone 0.99b11. I did anything you suggested, but I cannot see any text. I am such a newbie... sorry about that... Well, if i well understood, since I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and a 32BS 3GS, I won't be able to use this software. Is it correct?
Thanks, manuela

Re:No iphones found! - 2010/07/28 03:40You should look for another program that provides the same features. I cannot support Syphone any longer. The program is not compatible with Snow Leopard, and I no longer have it installed.MicroMat Inc Makers of TechTool
