Russian/Cyrillic letters - unreadable - 2007/10/17 01:23 Hello,

Russian/Cyrillic letters completely unreadable.

In GSM phones SMS can be in 7-bit ASCII mode or in UCS2 mode.

Russian/Cyrillic letters encoded always in UCS2.

Hope it'll be fixed.

Thanks in advance,

Re:Russian/Cyrillic letters - unreadable - 2007/10/17 04:12 I hope so, too.

Yesterday’s posting of the 300 new features in Leopard mentioned improved support for Russian. See the “International” section of the page at http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/300.html .

Re:Russian/Cyrillic letters - unreadable - 2007/10/17 20:49 Well, there's no need to wait for Leopard, actually.

Might be just somehow find out in which encoding SMS message (ASCII or UCS2)
and display it properly.

Re:Russian/Cyrillic letters - unreadable - 2007/10/18 07:51 Hi there,

it has nothing to do with russian. Any Umlaut characters are shown wrong. If you choose UTF8 as encoding everything should be fine.

Re:Russian/Cyrillic letters - unreadable - 2007/10/18 10:46 It's true, the inability to display russian (or chinese, or german) characters correctly has nothing to do with the language, nor with the impending release of Leopard. It has everything to do with the fact that Syphone is most definitely not localized in any way whatsoever: sorry folks, but as you may have gathered from other threads here, Syphone was quite rapidly developed and we were really just writing it for our own internal use anyway. As we all live, work, and text in the good 'ol US of A, it's a feature that's pretty far down on the list.

Part of the reason we didn't even test this particular situation is that, simply, we don't have any data to test on! Here's where you, the good forum people, can help: anyone who's willing to is welcome to send exported XML files of russian/chinese/german/etc conversations my way (with any personal data removed by you, meaning you'll need to know enough about XML to open the file and find your serial number to delete it), I'll be able to use those to start testing i18n support in Syphone. Can't promise when it'll actually get implemented, but I can't even get started without something to test on!

I suppose an email address would be helpful: remove the J from my forum user name, tack on "at micromat.com", and there you go.

Thanks everyone!
