I'm trying to repair a firewire volume with TechTools, but it won't unmount because (I think) Checkmate is linking to it. But it's extremely frustrating not being able to disable checkmate in Activity Monitor--even with force quit!

Hold down the Option key while clicking the Checkmate icon in the menubar, then choose "Disable Checkmate" from the menu.
The most common reason why a volume will not unmount is that it has open files on it. Please see our instructions for using the lsof command, which will allow you to see both the open files and the process that has them open.
